KIRKLAND, Wash., Dec. 27, 2012 – Kenworth has introduced a new, heavy-duty front frame assembly option for its Kenworth T370 medium duty truck that makes it easy for body builders to install customer winch bumpers.

The new Kenworth T370 option includes durable Austempered ductile iron (ADI) cast front drive brackets, 3/8-inch thick steel front adapters, enhanced radiator crossmember assembly brackets, and C-channel front frame sections that can accept a winch bumper. The bumper adapters can be used with other specialty bumpers commonly installed on utility, overhead automobile haulers, and fire and emergency vehicles.

Chesapeake, Virginia Based DB3 Logistics Completes Goal to be 100% Green Fleet

20120223_1D3_0028-Edit

Locally owned and operated by Michael and Scott Davis, DB3 opened their doors in April of 2011. Originally owner operators, the Davis brothers started DB3 with the vision of improving the logistics supply chain, all while becoming a 100% Green Fleet Company.

Just over a year later, DB3’s fleet contains 15 units and each unit complies with the Go Green Program’s requirements!

To meet their goal, DB3 formed a strong partnership with Chesapeake, Virginia’s Kenworth dealer, Truck Enterprises Chesapeake.  Together they navigated the regulations of Virginia’s Go Green Program, the governing body Green Fleets in Virginia.  Truck Enterprises assisted in many of DB3’s truck purchases and performs 100% of the maintenance on DB3’s tractors.  The consistency in their fleet and in the maintenance keeps the trucks on the road and operating efficiently.

Gene Hassell, General Manager at Truck Enterprises Chesapeake, can’t be any more proud of DB3’s achievements:

“Scott and Michael embody what the Go Green Program is trying to achieve. These guys sat behind the wheel and know what it takes to operate in the very competitive port drayage market.  They have taken their older trucks off the road and are replacing them with newer model trucks, including a 2012 KW T-800, which was the first 2012 truck in the Go Green Program.  They place such a big emphasis on safety and maintenance that they are able to keep their trucks on the road, which allows them to maintain outstanding quality of service. You can tell how much pride they take in having a 100% Green fleet.  They are doing their part to reduce the emissions in the Hampton Roads area.”

With a major goal behind them DB3 plans to grow and expand into other markets such as Charleston, SC.20120223_1D3_0010-Edit

Volvo Trucks announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) have awarded all model year 2014 Volvo vehicles certificates of conformance under the first-ever greenhouse gas regulations for heavy trucks.

“Volvo is committed to leadership in fuel efficiency, and to reducing the carbon footprint of our operations and products,” said Göran Nyberg, president, Volvo Trucks North American Sales and Marketing. “Environmental care is a longstanding Volvo core value, and we will continue to work with  EPA and NHTSA to deliver on the important goals of these regulations”

New exterior components included redesigned mirror heads with aerodynamic shrouds and arms, redesigned hood mirrors that also increase visibility, as well as additional ground effect features below the bumper and side fairings. A more aerodynamic roof fairing and sun visor were also added to the VN model daycabs.

Volvo Trucks Launches ‛Fueldrop’ Mobile Game and Fuel Efficiency-Focused Contest

by Brandon Borgna

“Fueldrop,” an innovative iPad game from Volvo Trucks in North America, is now available as a free download from the Apple iTunes App Store.

The game provides an interactive brand experience showcasing the company’s proven leadership in fuel efficiency and innovation. The launch of Fueldrop coincides with the beginning of an online scavenger hunt for U.S. participants centered around Volvo’s “Proven” message highlighting the company’s past and present.

“Fuel efficiency and innovation are part of Volvo’s DNA,” said Magnus Koeck, Volvo Trucks vice president, marketing and brand management. “We have long been global leaders in engine, transmission and truck design, all of which help minimize fuel consumption. The Fueldrop game and online scavenger hunt share our heritage in a way that members of the trucking industry and the motoring public alike can enjoy and appreciate.”

Fueldrop Game for iPad

The object of the mobile game is to make the most out of every drop of fuel throughout each level. Volvo Trucks engineers contributed their expertise to help integrate engine-inspired components and incorporate hot, cold and wet elements, all of which pose real-life challenges to engines.

Online Scavenger Hunt

Within the Fueldrop game are clues, which the player can use to find additional clues embedded within Volvo Trucks’ Facebook page, Twitter feed, U.S. website, videos, ads and archived issues of Driver’s Digest, Volvo Trucks’ North American customer magazine. These clues eventually lead to prizes – eight iPads, which will be awarded during the course of 16 weeks. Every two weeks, a participant who has found the clues needed to complete a phrase will be randomly drawn to receive an iPad.

Volvo’s Fuel Efficiency Leadership

Volvo Trucks has continued to propel its fuel efficiency leadership in recent years through a variety of powertrain and aerodynamic design enhancements.

The introduction of advanced aerodynamic components – redesigned mirror heads with aerodynamic shrouds and arms, redesigned hood mirrors that also increase visibility and
additional ground effect features below the bumper and side fairings –  for Volvo VN model highway trucks further improved the already efficient truck design.

In addition to fuel efficiency improvements of up to 5 percent or more with the introduction of EPA ’10 engines with SCR technology, Volvo Trucks delivers additional fuel efficiency through its XE – exceptional efficiency – powertrain package. Available on Volvo-powered VN highway tractors, the XE package boosts fuel efficiency by about three percent by lowering engine rpm at a given vehicle speed, a concept Volvo calls “downspeeding.” Possible through the combination of Volvo’s I-Shift automated manual transmission and a Volvo engine with modified software, XE allows the engine to cruise about 200 rpm less than the average truck sold today.
